Hockey Hustle: PASTE.’s Electrifying Ode to Nottingham’s Music Scene

PASTE.

PASTE., a four-piece explosion straight out of Nottingham! Known for their explosive live shows and genre bending tunes, their latest track ‘Hockey Hustle’ is a whirlwind wonder. As soon as you hit play on this track you are lifted up and carried into a runaway train of overdrive bass, guiding us into a cataclysmic alternative rock anthem.

Forming in 2018, the band features Daniel Dribb on vocals, El Mcdermott on bass, Jed Pierce on guitar and Harley Grewal on drums. Hard to ignore, they demand every second of your attention with their music, catching the attention of BBC introducing and playing sold out shows in the north of the UK.

The track, which pays homage to Nottingham’s Hockey Hustle Music Festival, is a fantastic fusion, neatly blending alternative rock with a hint of jazz. The guitar lines remind of The Cure while the vocals, infused with a captivating delay, evoke a sense of The Beatles calling out. The muzzy bass provides a solid anchor while the guitar soars into a crescendo of euphoric soloing, sure to light up the audience during a live show.

The vocals and guitar line harmonise beautifully and the double tracking adds a layer of cool, retro charm that evokes nostalgia. I almost feel like I’m at a live show throughout the song, the drums are pummelling throughout, giving us everything they’ve got and leaving a lasting impression.

Hockey Hustle’s intense energy is sure to stir the listener, and possibly even evoke a desire to join a band themselves. PASTE. have delivered a compelling and passionate track here; it’s a fun, catchy number, fizzing with energy.

Mark your calendars people! PASTE. have a show coming up on December 13, 2023, at the Bodega in Nottingham. Don’t miss it if you’re in the area! See you there!
