Katy Alex kickstarts 2022 with her most ambitious release to date, ‘Glow’.

The best songs are made from raw emotions, and ‘Glow’ is no exception to this. As Disney-esque as it sounds, no one can take away your dreams, and I’ll never stop making music because someone else is trying their hardest to make me.

After gaining support from BBC Radio One, Spotify, Line Of Best Fit and many more across only two singles, Katy Alex returns with her first self-produced track, Glow.

Being the one woman powerhouse she is, in the face of adversity across 2021, Katy Alex wrote ‘Glow’ during a drive back from a family holiday whilst her musical career was in turmoil. Though the outside world could see Katy was beginning to thrive, behind the scenes a long-standing working relationship was falling apart due to outside factors to the detriment of her own songs and plans for the following two years As Katy has had to do time and again since becoming a musician as a kid, she dusted herself off and turned her pain into power… As the song goes.

After finishing the track, a call out was done via BBC Introducing to find a suitable hip hop artist to feature on the song, from that Katy formed a partnership with Kingdom and the song was finished remotely with the mix coming from production partner, Alex Quinn (Michael Aldag, Bandit)

It’s a song of many emotions delivered in a sugary pop coating that lyrically shows Katy Alex is no pushover, Glow could be considered a call out for other women in the industry to stand strong and to not let the pressures of an unequal industry be something that stumps their creativity.

Speaking about the song, Katy said: I remember travelling home from a holiday that was supposed to be a celebration for my birthday and first official solo release feeling totally helpless, I just couldn’t see a way around what I was going through. After some tears were shed I fired up my laptop to work on some music, the quickest and easiest way to distract myself. I remembered in that moment why I write, to express myself, a form of therapy in a way. The best songs are made from raw emotions, and ‘Glow’ is no exception to this. As Disney-esque as it sounds, no one can take away your dreams, and I’ll never stop making music because someone else is trying their hardest to make me. For me, ‘Glow’ perfectly captures the emotions I felt at that time, a powerful message to anyone going through moments of hopelessness to fight back for what you deserve, to turn the pain others inflict on you into a superpower that drives you forwards.”

Sounding like Banks and Anna Of The North, Glow has a sound that is both en vogue and utterly timeless. Like Katy, the track is completely versatile and shows strengths in more than one place or genre.

In 2021 Katy released a six-track demo EP exclusively on SoundCloud, released two dance songs via Immersive Records and D4D4NCE respectively. All whilst playing a string of sets at Liverpool Sound City, Florrie Fest (supporting Red Rum Club), and for Scruff Of The Neck on their Twitch stream.

Past releases from Katy Alex have been featured on Spotify UK’s New Music Friday UK playlist twice, played on BBC Radio OneBBC 6 Music, Capital FM & Kiss FM, and a smattering of support from Amazing Radio. In the press she has been featured across Line Of Best Fit, Clout Magazine, Bido Litoamongst many others.

Katy rounded off 2021 signing her first record & publishing deal, modelling for Liverpool Football Club, been nominated for a Youth Music Award, was shortlisted for BBC Introducing’s Live Lounge, featured on The Anfield Wrap, had support from Spotify, Amazon, Deezer and Apple Music via the track released with D4D4NCE & Piero Pirupa (500K Monthlies).

With Katy’s years of growing up within the Liverpool music scene, playing shows from the early age of 16, winning awards locally, playing the MainStage of Liverpool Pride and Sound City, there is a feeling around the city that she is very much their girl.

Wanting to build a Scouse-only team to help mould her sound and create her vision, Katy has teamed up with production partner Alex Quinn (Michael Aldag, Abbie Ozard) in Parr St Studios, whilst Mike Cave (Lewis Capaldi, CamelPhat) was on mastering duties. She has also enlisted the help of famed local artist, Neil Keating (Converse, Jagermeister), to create her artwork.

Katy Alex is one of the most exciting new voices to emerge from the already burgeoning Liverpool music scene, her co-writes and top lines have already gathered just short of 5 million streams on Spotify and is probably the biggest talent you’ve never heard of.
