Come closer to the flame… this is fire! My Life As A Moth shares ‘Electro Junction’
And reveals news of debut EP ‘Chest Of Dress Up’ coming this March
The intricate and avant-garde pop number is a wistful blend of organic percussion and delicate strings that pull you straight into another world entirely. With earworm melodies and scintillating keys, the song grapples with the idea of surrendering to the darkness in your life in order to allow yourself to be reborn, brighter and stronger.
“’Electro Junction’ was inspired by a deconstruction that also allows for reconstruction; building yourself back up again after a tough time. It is about shedding your old aspects to make room for better things.”
My Life As A Moth
It lands with enticing accompanying visuals, created by the CLUMP Collective, which sees the London-based, Swedish singer stakeout a number of abandoned mysterious locations, from a hoarder’s paradise filled with weird and wonderful objects, to an empty, 70s style caravan trailer complete with a zesty zebra print throw, much akin to the song itself.
‘Electro Junction’ forms part of the musician’s debut EP ‘Chest Of Dress Up’, also announced today, and due for release on 8th March 2022. The three-track project features the title track, and introductory single – which drew comparisons last year to the likes of Kate Bush and Fiona Apple for it’s four eccentric minutes of cascading keys and jangly guitars paired with exuberant and enchanting lyrics.
Fizzing with personality and charm,’Chest Of Dress Up’ the EP was recorded at Vada Studios, a converted chapel just outside of Stratford-upon-Avon, and continues her work with Rob Ellis(PJ Harvey, Anna Calvi), Adrian Utley(Portishead) and Ben Christophers (Bat For Lashes). Sonically, it evidences the playful and precocious innocent qualities that float to the surface in all three songs that make up the body of work, proving My Life As A Moth to be a seriously talented musician who doesn’t take herself too seriously.
To showcase the ‘Chest Of Dress Up’ EP, the singer-songwriter will be playing their first live show this spring at Paper Dress Vintage in Hackney on Tuesday 22nd March 2022.
Whilst some mystery remains around My Life As A Moth, an undeniable desire to be free and express themselves creatively sits at the heart of their music. Key moments in the singer’s life which have led her to this point inform much of her lyrical inspiration, laced with inquisitive and deft metaphors it’s a real credit to her artistry. A poet, a musician and a wise head on young shoulders, My Life As A Moth wears all of these guises with an unfaltering confidence – and the result sounds heavenly.
